Jaewon Ryu, MD, JD, is the President and CEO of Geisinger, an integrated delivery system with clinical enterprise, health plan , the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, and research and innovation functions operating in central and northeastern Pennsylvania. He joined the organization originally as the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in 2016.

Dr. Ryu came to Geisinger from Humana, where he was the President of Integrated Care Delivery and responsible for the company’s owned and joint ventured care delivery assets. Prior to Humana, he held various leadership roles at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, Kaiser Permanente, and in government at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and as a White House Fellow at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He started his career as a practicing corporate healthcare attorney at the international firm McDermott, Will & Emery.

Outside of Geisinger, Dr. Ryu serves on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), a body legislatively tasked with advising Congress on payment and other polices governing health plans and providers serving Medicare beneficiaries. He is also a member of the board of Privia (NASDAQ: PRVA), which brings capabilities that help provider practices with management functions and the transition to value-based financing models. He has previously also served in other advisory roles, including board positions with My Health Direct, Inc. (acquired by Experian), a provider of digital care coordination solutions, as well as MCCI and JenCare, both organizations managing the financing and delivery of care.

He has also served on the Board of Directors of the White House Fellows Foundation and Association. Dr. Ryu earned his B.A. degree from Yale University, and his M.D. and J.D. from the University of Chicago. He completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center
